Author Guidelines

A. REGISTER TO SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE

The OJS system requires you to first register as an author, before you can submit your article. Pls follow the steps as indicated above and fill in the required fields. 

B. SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The manuscript should be submitted electronically in the following formats:

1) An editable version in MS Word, Open Office or RTF
2) A non-editable version in PDF

When you submit your article online, pls ensure that you have all the required information at hand (Author names and contact details, title, abstract, keywords, etc.) and the article prepared according to the Author Guidelines in its final format to be reviewed.

C. LENGTH

Research articles should not exceed 15 pages (A-4 size) and scholarly communication should not exceed 6 pages, including tables and figures.

D. ORGANIZATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT

The manuscript should be in electronic format (A-4 size) and meet the following requirements:

Title:
* Font type: Times New Roman
* Font size: 14 (numbers 13)
* Initial letters capitalized in Bold

Abstract and Keywords:
* Font type: Times New Roman
* Font size 11 in italics (numbers font size 10), e.g.
  It is estimated that 10% of the population suffers from...
* Abbreviations in small caps (e.g. AVI)

Body text:
* Font type: Times New Roman
* Font size: 11 (numbers 10)
* Single spacing
* Margins: top 4cm, bottom 2.5 cm, right 2.5 cm, left 4cm

Headings

  • Main headings: ALL CAPS in bold, e.g. INTRODUCTION
    * Sub headings: Initial letters capitalized in bold, e.g. Sites Description

    Captions:
    * Font type: Times New Roman
    * Font size 11 (numbers in 10)
    * The title should be in small caps and the caption itself in italics, e.g.
    TABLE 1: Selected Additives Commonly in the African Traditional Brew Trade

  • References:
    * Font type: Times New Roman
    * Font size 11 (numbers in 10)

    Before submission of the MS ensure that the MS has been fully copyedited and that you have run a grammatical check on the English language. If your manuscript does not meet the above requirements you run the risk of the paper being rejected outright.
  • Pls ensure that the electronic file of your manuscript is completely anonymised for review purposes, so no authors names should be included or any references to the author(s) that may give away the author(s) identity/ies. You will be requested to fill in all this information seperately when you submit your article, so it will be known to the editor(s) who select the reviewers.

1.     INFORMATION ON THE MANUSCRIPT

When submitting your article online you will be required to fill in information about your manuscript (this is referred to as metadata). This information will be used to make your artcle searchable online. It is important that it provides the correct information to promote your article as best as possible. 

  • The title should be brief and such that it conveys to the informed reader the particular nature of the contents of the paper.
  • Under the heading 'bio satetment', pls include a short Author CV of maximum 100 words. See the example here below:
  • Markus Püschel (PhD Karlsruhe, 1998) is a Professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. In 2000-2010 he was with Carnegie Mellon University and served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and the IEEE Signal Processing Letters. He was a Guest Editor of the Proceedings of the IEEE and the Journal of Symbolic Computation, and served on various program committees of conferences in computing, compilers, and programming languages. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Research Award of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon and the Eta Kappa Nu Award for Outstanding Teaching. His research interests include program synthesis with the goal of high performance, fast computing, algorithms, applied mathematics, and signal processing theory/software/ hardware.
  • The abstract must indicate the scope of the research and its principal findings. Abstracts should not exceed 200 words for research papers and a maximum of 100 words for scholarly communications.
  • Add 6 - 10 keywords below your abstract that index your article.

2.     MAIN CONTENTS OF THE MANUSCRIPT

The main contents of the manuscript should preferably contain the following headings written in small capital letters

(a)   INTRODUCTION:

Stating the aim of the research investigation and relating the manuscript to similar research in the literature.

(b)     EXPERIMENTS

(c)     METHODOLOGY

(d)     RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

(e)     CONCLUSION

(f)      ACKNOWLEDGEMENT(S)

(g)     STATEMENT OF NO COMPETING INTERESTS (IF REQUIRED)

(h)    REFERENCES

REFERENCES

Short references in the text should appear sequentially in rounded brackets, listing the author(s) and year of publication, e.g. (Davis 2005). In the case of more than 2 authors, use the reference of et al, e.g. (Davis, et al 2006). Full references should be given at the end of the article and should be listed in alphabetical order in the format as laid out below. References should be in font size 11, with numbers size 10.

Note:

1)    The citation and referencing should be consistent

2)     If in doubt, always consult the editor before finalizing your article. This will save you, the author, a lot of work in having to changes things afterwards.

 

Formulas, Tables, Figues, and Illustration 

1)    Formulas:

All formulas must be neat and written in correct symbols and/letters.

2)    Figures:

All figures must be submitted in a form ready for publication. The drawings should be embedded in the section they apply to. Large or bold, italics lettering should be avoided. Each drawing should have a figure number and a brief caption in italics.

3)    Tables:

Tables should be numbered in consecutive order. Avoid complicated column headings.

4)    Footnotes:

Footnotes should be avoided. If needed than use endnotes instead. 

5)    Illustrations
Illustrations should be submitted in either jpg or tiff format. Illustrations should be of good quality (300 - 600 pxs) and can be in colour or B/W.

6)    Captions
Captions should be provided to nrs. 2 and 5. Captions should be in font size 11 (numbers in 10). The titles should be small caps and the caption itself in italics, e.g.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission is an original work of research or review written by the author(s). It has not previously been published elsewhere, nor is it currently under consideration with another journal.
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or another editable open-source document file format.
  3. Where available URLs for references have been provided.
  4. The text should be single-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font; employing italics, rather than underlining (except for URL addresses); all illustrations, figures, and tables should be placed in the text at the appropriate place, rather than at the end.
  5. The text should comply to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, listed in the section "About the Journal".
  6. When submitting to a peer-reviewed section in the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review should be followed.
