There are multiple ways to approach the problem:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By hand (not recommended)<\/li>\n<li>With a spreadsheet (recommended)\n<ul>\n<li>Remember that in both MS Excel and OpenOffice\/LibreOffice Calc there are tools for doing ANOVA\n<ul>\n<li>Excel: Data&gt;Data Analysis<\/li>\n<li>Calc: Data&gt;Statistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes the ANOVA function in Calc gives an error. If so, then in the cell where &#8220;Total&#8221; is calculated replace the absolute referencing by columns with a block that represents all the data. For example if the function is <em><strong>=DEVSQ($B$2:$B$6,$C$2:$C$6,$D$2:$D$6,$E$2:$E$6)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0replace it with\u00a0<em><strong>=DEVSQ(B2:E6)<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Using an online ANOVA calculator. These all work\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/vassarstats.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/vassarstats.net\/<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Select\u00a0<em><strong>ANOVA<\/strong><\/em> along the left hand side then the <em><strong>One-way Anova<\/strong><\/em> calculator. This one is nice because it also does the Tukey HSD test.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/easycalculation.com\/statistics\/one-way-anova.php\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/easycalculation.com\/statistics\/one-way-anova.php<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/onlinestatbook.com\/stat_analysis\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/onlinestatbook.com\/stat_analysis\/index.html<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; This is by the author of our book, and it has built in data sets, including Smiles &amp; Leniency, but it is a little harder to enter the data than the Vassar calculator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should be able to take this from data to ANOVA to Tukey HSD (if ANOVA gives \u00a0you the green light)<\/p>\n<p>Here is the data<\/p>\n<pre><code>575\t565\t600\t725\r\n542\t593\t651\t700\r\n530\t590\t610\t715\r\n539\t579\t637\t685\r\n570\t610\t629\t710\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Where the columns represent different levels of the factor Power and the rows are the samples for each power level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In advance of our Friday session, please work on the following problem.
